Degrassi Junior High and Beverly Hills 90210. (teenage
truths and tribulations across cultures) Marie-Claire Simonetti.
Abstract: American television’s ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ and
Canada’s ‘Degrassi Junior High,’ both popular teen programs, present widely
divergent worldviews. While both shows delve on similar contemporary issues and
promote basic moral values such as truthfulness, parental respect and goodness,
they tell different stories that mirror and create two different perspectives
of society. Both programs, however, reflect the ideology of their respective
cultures.
