Snap Media’s Syndication Engine tunes viewers in to the web

TORONTO, ON, Dec. 6 /CNW/ - Snap Media's groundbreaking syndication
engine, the technical platform behind the wildly popular web site,
www.degrassi.tv, ensures users interact with automatically updated new content
every time they log on and notifies wireless application protocol (WAP)
enabled users that new features have been added to the website. The result is
unprecedented site traffic as viewers tune in to the web to keep up with their
favourite show.
"There's no doubt the Degrassi site is extremely popular because teens
get to be part of an online experience related to a TV show unlike anything
else out there. And it's Snap Media's syndication engine that's making it all
happen seamlessly," says Raja Khanna, Snap Media's President and CEO.
Snap Media's syndication engine works behind the scenes of
www.degrassi.tv to continuously add content and automatically release new
information online following every episode. Seamless information delivery is
matched to a user's local time zone and broadcaster so that users from Halifax
to Vancouver find fresh stories, D-mail, message board postings and more when
they log onto the website immediately after they watch an episode of the show.
As Snap Media's technology is further developed, convergent, multicast stories
will unfold in timed relation to the TV broadcast, even in syndication.
The syndication engine also allows for mid-season schedule adjustments,
so broadcasters can easily change the timed release of new content should an
episode be pre-empted. With Degrassi: The Next Generation already licensed in
the U.S. and many foreign territories, Snap Media is working to add additional
broadcaster schedules to the system.
In a single month www.degrassi.tv has secured more than 26,000 full
registrations and attracted over 28,000,000 hits. Driven by over 2,000,000
unique page impressions a month, users have logged a total of over 145,000
unique sessions per month each lasting an average of more than 18 minutes.
Since the online experience is closely connected to the show's story, it is
expected that traffic will continue to increase through the fall television
season.
www.degrassi.tv is a co-production of Snap Media and Epitome Pictures
Inc., in association with CTV with the participation of the Bell Broadcast and
New Media Fund, the Canadian Television Fund and the Telefilm Canada New Media
Fund.
Snap Media is an award-winning interactive services company. Based in
Toronto, Snap Media works with clients from across North America to develop
groundbreaking websites, online promotions, enhanced television and convergent
projects that effectively integrate client brands and messages with the
Internet, broadband, iTV wireless technologies and more.
