DeGrassi series takes home multiple Gemini Awards

Paris Star Paris native Linda Schuyler took home a lot of hardware at this years Gemini Awards. Linda, daughter of Jack and Joyce Bawcutt, is the co-creator of the popular DeGrassi television series. The programs latest incarnation, DeGrassi The Next Generation won several awards at the 18th Annual Geminis. The Geminis are presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.

Among the awards were Best Performance in a Childrens or Youth Program Series, Best Childrens or Youth Fiction Program or Series, Best Interactive Program, Most Popular Website, Best Direction in a Childrens or Youth Series, and Best Music in a Variety Program or Series.
The series was also given awards for Best Youth Program, Best Director and Best Editor by the Directors Guild of Canada.

The first DeGrassi series, The Kids of DeGrassi Street grew out of Schuylers work as a media consultant with the Toronto School Board. Spin-offs included DeGrassi Junior High and DeGrassi High.

DeGrassi The Next Generation is produced by Schuylers company Epitome Pictures and is aired on CTV television stations.
