Degrassi’s Most Wanted
Fashion editor Bernadette Morra asked actors from Degrassi: The Next Generation what back-to-school item they wanted most and to choose the one thing preferred by the character they portray on the school-based drama that airs Fridays on CTV
BERNADETTE MORRA
Stacey Farber
Most wanted item: Patterned tights
Why: Romanticism and Bohemian-chic are two looks that are wildly fashionable this fall. I was extremely lucky this past February, attending Fashion Week in New York City. At Anna Sui’s show I fell in love with the way she paired vibrant, patterned tights with practically every skirt and dress. That being said, I am in dire need of bold, ethnic print tights to wear with either pumps or flats; they can brighten any outfit.
Character: Ellie Nash
Most wanted item: A new bottle of black nail polish.
Why: To polish her back-to-school outfit, convey confidence and scare the “popular” kids.
Adamo Ruggiero
Most wanted item: Red Puma high-top sneakers.
Why: I love sportswear, especially in the fall. For example, I own Puma tracksuit jackets, vintage Nike and Adidas
T-shirts as well as many Puma and Adidas soccer bags. When it comes to shoes, I prefer high-tops. High-top sneakers look relaxed when you tuck jeans and joggers into them, yet they look funky and stylish with a pair of capris or shorts. Also, red is a great colour for fall,
especially when paired up with different shades of brown. This fall I intend to rock out my Puma kicks with worn vintage jeans or comfy joggers and a brown vintage blazer.
Character: Marco Del Rossi
Most wanted item: Fitted Diesel jeans.
Why: Marco is a lot more clean-cut and slick than myself. Therefore, running shoes and joggers would never do for him! Marco would go for the newest fashion in denim, which would most likely be top brands like Diesel. When it comes to jeans for me, I love them ripped, faded, baggy and very vintage. Marco is a lot fancier. His jeans would be a solid colour, clean-cut with a proper hem.
Lauren Collins
Most wanted item: Frye Dorado slouch boot.
Why: Boho chic was definitely the look of the summer and while Mary-Kate and Ashley can continue wearing their white dresses and sandals through the winter in L.A., we Canadian girls need to find alternatives. These boots have such a great vintage feel and will look perfect with anything from skinny jeans to a long, flowy print skirt. Also, Frye has been around forever and this company certainly knows how to make a solid boot that is comfortable and can hold up to all weather conditions.
Character: Paige Michalchuk
Most wanted item: Paige Premium Jeans in the Laurel Canyon 5-pocket dark wash. (I think the only place to get them in Toronto is Honey at Bayview Village.)
Why: My character is all about looking put together. These jeans are perfectly tailored and flattering for a wide range of body types so they are a great staple to complete “an outfit.” Plus, they are my character
Paige’s namesake, which she would totally love. Paige would pair them with some pointy boots and add a velvet blazer for the first day of school.
