Stars of Degrassi: The Next Generation will take a break from their show’s fictional problems to walk for youth who have them in real life.
Lauren Collins, who plays Paige, and Cassie Steele who stars as Manny, will be at the Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone tomorrow signing autographs and taking pictures with fans.
“Kids nowadays … so much is going on in their lives. They need someone to talk to. It’s a great thing to be part of,” Steele said. “I’ll also sing the national anthem.”
Proceeds will go to Kids Help Phone, Canada’s only free, anonymous and bilingual helpline for youth.
The toll-free line operates 24 hours a day. Calls are answered by professional counsellors who will listen, advise the callers or refer them to other services.
Last year, Kids Help Phone assisted 3,000 Canadian youngsters between the ages of 4 and 20.
The 5-km walks or 10-km runs will take place in 45 communities across the country.
The Toronto walk starts at Coronation Park near Exhibition Place at 8 a.m.
