After a mixtape, months of hype, a rumoured label bidding war and a few nifty Rihanna-hookup rumours, rapper Drake has signed a record deal.
The most talked-about Degrassi high-schooler since Joey Jeremiah signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money label on Monday. Universal music will handle distribution, reports Billboard. According to the trade mag, the Toronto native is on track to release his debut by the end of the year. Since releasing mixtape So Far Gone earlier this year, Drake, pictured, has built his profile almost entirely by word of mouth. According to MTV, his management’s plan is to maintain his rep as an independent artist. Drake’s first LP is tentatively titled Thank Me Later, MTV reports, and Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Jay-Z are all rumoured to be attached to the project.
