JONOVISION HOSTS DEGRASSI HIGH SCHOOL REUNION DECEMBER 23 AND 24 ON CBC TELEVISION

JONOVISION HOSTS DEGRASSI HIGH SCHOOL REUNION
DECEMBER 23 AND 24 ON CBC TELEVISION
More than a dozen
Degrassi cast members are reuniting for the first time since 1991
for two special episodes of CBC’s top-rated teen talk show,
JONOVISION, airing December 23 and 24 at 5:30 p.m. on
CBC-TV.

Degrassi students Snake (Stefan Brogan), Joey (Pat
Mastroianni), Spike (Amanda Stepto), Shane (Bill Parrot), Liz (Cathy
Keenan), Kathleen (Rebecca Haines), Stephanie (Nicole Stoffman),
Dwayne (Darrin Brown), BLT (Dayo Ade), Maya (Kyra Levy) and Yick
(Siluck Saysanasy) and two former Degrassi teachers — Mr. Raditch
(Daniel Woods) and Ms. Avery (Michelle Goodeve) — will be joining
host Jonathan Torrens to talk about life after
Degrassi.

“This was the show I grew up watching,” says host
Jonathan Torrens, “and because of my age I could always relate to
what the characters were going through.” Filmed live in front of a
studio audience, Jonovision will feature plenty of opportunities for
the teen audience members to quiz their favourite Degrassi
characters.

Produced by Toronto’s Playing with Time Inc., the
Degrassi series won more than 30 international and national awards
including two International Emmys. The series was incredibly
popular, not just in Canada, but around the world where it has been
seen in over 40 countries. It continues to attract new audiences as
it appears in syndication on CBC-TV and with other broadcasters
around the world.

“When we posted news on our web site that
we were hosting the reunion the overwhelming response convinced us
to do our first ever two-part episode,” says producer Lynn Harvey.
“We’ve had e-mails from around the world and we’ve got Degrassi fans
flying in all the way from San Francisco.”

Series producer
Richard Mortimer says, “On Jonovision we always respond to our
viewers and whenever we featured former Degrassi stars in our comedy
sketches the response was tremendous.”

In November,
Jonovision received an Alliance for Children and Television Award
for best information/variety programming for an episode on squeegee
kids.

Jonovision airs on CBC-TV Tuesday through Friday at
5:30 and gives a voice to young people, part of CBC’s commitment to
Canadian youth.
