Degrassi presents first Christmas special
It’s a twist you would never have predicted to a storyline 14 years in the making. CTV proudly presents a one-hour Holiday Special you can’t afford to miss; the first-ever for television’s storied Degrassi franchise, airing Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV (check local listings).
The episode, which co-creator and producer Linda Schuyler calls a charming and timeless addition to the franchise, is also a story in itself having started filming during the last snowstorm of year and finished during the now infamous “Blackout of 2003.”
Entitled Holiday, viewers are treated to a surprise twist involving franchise favourites Joey and Caitlin (played by Pat Mastroianni and Stacie Mistysyn) offering a resolution to their story arc, one that has played out since 1989 through three incarnations of the Degrassi franchise and of course, to millions of viewers around the world on numerous television networks.
It seems like a lifetime ago since their sweetheart engagement ended over a not-so-subtle indiscretion. Still it seems the pair haven’t been able to forget about each other and now that Caitlin’s back in town, and with Christmas around the corner, she’s hoping some mistletoe magic can rekindle that old flame. Sadly, Joey is oblivious; he’s moved on and is getting serious with someone else. But when Caitlin and he spontaneously share an intimate moment, he wonders if they are destined to be – once again – more than friends.
Commenting on the latest twist in the 14-year story line for Joey and Caitlin, producer Linda Schuyler said: “It’s been a long and winding road for both characters, but in the end I think viewers will agree it was well worth the wait. Whatever happens, I just hope Joey doesnt blow it again!”
Meanwhile, developing in a parallel storyline, Craig (Jake Epstein) and Ashley (Melissa McIntyre) have become a serious item – she even gives him a cherished guitar as an early Christmas gift. But underneath Craig’s holiday cheer lurks a big secret. He’s still seeing Manny (Cassie Steele) behind Ash’s back. His cheating heart is out of control and when the girls put two and two together, Craig is left with a lump of coal in his stocking. Merry Christmas!
