Yesterday the Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) announced the nominees for their annual Media Awards. Each year GLAAD honours media outlets, as well as films, television shows and musicians for their “presentation of fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect our lives.”

For our purposes here at ChartAttack, were most interested in the nominees in the Outstanding Music Artist category, which honours two Canadian musicians. Among the nominees are the always wonderful Rufus Wainwright, who is nominated for his Want One album, and Peaches, who gets a nod for her Fatherfucker LP. Other nominees in the category include Junior Senior for the very enjoyable D-D-Dont Stop The Beat, Bitch And Animal for Sour Juice And Rhyme and Meshell Ndegeocellos Comfort Woman.

In addition to the musical category, the GLAAD people honour all kinds of fun stuff. Other high profile noms include those fetching Queer Eye For The Straight Guy fellows (who are nominated in the first ever Outstanding Reality TV Award); Degrassi: The Next Generation, Queer As Folk and Six Feet Under (all up for Outstanding Drama Series); Sex And The City and Will & Grace (both for Outstanding Comedy Series); and a series of ground-breaking news journalism pieces. For a full list of nominees, check out the GLAAD website.

The GLAAD Awards will be handed out at three separate ceremonies held in three different American cities. The ceremonies will be held on March 27 in Los Angeles, April 12 in New York and June 5 in San Francisco.
