A familiar face from television is coming to Barrie’s Talk is Free Theatre (TIFT) stage this month for the premiere of Dani Girl.
Jake Epstein, a fresh-faced teen heart-throb best known for his roles in the movie Charlie Bartlett and the TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation, will be playing the character named ‘Rafe’ in the Barrie musical as well as several other characters.
Dani Girl is the both comical and heart-breaking story of a tenacious nine-year-old girl who is faced with a life-threatening disease. A story described as “a tale of life in the face of death, hope in the face of despair, and the indomitable power of the human imagination.”
Alongside Epstein, several familiar faces will be singing their way into Barrie, including Jayme Armstrong from CBC’s How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria.
The production was written by Christopher Dimond and Michael Kooman, winners of the 2010 Larson Award, on the scene. The musical will also be directed by Richard Ouzanian, and musical direction will be in the hands of none other than Wayne Gwillim, whose musical direction had audiences whistling along in Toronto’s production of The Sound of Music.
The show is being previewed at the Barrie Community Health Centre, which TIFT is partnering for the production, on Jan. 20 at 8 p.m.
The premiere will take place Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. and will run until Jan. 29.
Tickets are $29, and four-ticket flexible passes are available for $105.
